Citizen's Income Requirements 2026: Who is eligible
You receive a message: "Your household has been selected for the Citizen's Income program. Confirm your information and make a small payment to activate the transfer." You delete it immediately. That message is fake. Prosperidad Social (Social Prosperity) doesn't register people via WhatsApp, doesn't call asking for money, and doesn't charge for anything. But the question remains: Could your household really receive this transfer? And how can you find out? Here's a straightforward explanation, using information currently available from official sources.
Last updated: June 2026.
What are the requirements for Citizen's Income and who is eligible?
The Citizen's Income requirements They don't work like an application you fill out. They work like a focusThe government reviews its databases and selects the households most in need. To be eligible, your household must be classified as living in extreme poverty, poverty, or socioeconomic vulnerability, according to the Sisbén IV system. Within this group, the program prioritizes households with people with disabilities, young children, children and adolescents, and intervention units in indigenous communities.
That's the short answer. There's no open application form. There's no waiting list. There's a cross-referencing of official information that determines who gets in. If your household meets the criteria and is well-classified in the Sisbén database, you're already on the list of potential households. If not, no "manager" can get you in for a fee.
Which Sisbén group is included in the targeting?
The program is based on the Sisbén IV, which categorizes households into groups according to their level of poverty. Group A It is the extreme poverty group and it is first in line. In fact, Prosperidad Social has focused within Group A on single-parent households, that is, households supported by a single adult. Group B, Those in moderate poverty may also be included, but under specific conditions and not in a generalized way.
Group C, which includes vulnerable but not poor households, is generally not a direct beneficiary of this transfer. If you still don't know which group your household falls into, that's the first real step. We explain it in our guide on the Sisbén groups for subsidies, because almost everything else depends on it.
What are the program lines, such as Care Assessment?
Citizen's Income is not a single, uniform check for everyone. It is organized into intervention programs with their own criteria. Two are currently in operation. Care Assessment It is aimed at households in poverty and vulnerability that have people with disabilities who require care or young children; it recognizes the care work that often falls on the women of the household. Colombia without Hunger It targets households in the most critical situation of poverty.
Each program has its own prioritized population. That's why two neighboring households, both registered in the Sisbén system, might receive different benefits, or one might receive benefits and the other might not. This isn't unfair or favoritism; it simply means the program is implemented first where the risk is highest. The program was launched in 2024 and has been rolled out gradually, so coverage is expanding in stages.
How do you register? The truth about "registration"«
Here's what's most confusing, and we want to be honest with you: There is no open enrollment for Citizen's Income. Prosperidad Social is upfront about it. There's no portal where you register to "apply." Selection is done directly, based on reliable administrative records such as the Sisbén IV and the Social Registry of Households.
So what can you do, specifically? Keep your Sisbén information updated and accurate. Maintain up-to-date household responsibilities, such as children's health, vaccinations, and education, because these verifications affect who remains in the targeted program. That's the part you can control. The rest is decided by cross-referencing databases, not by an intermediary.
How do I check if my household is a beneficiary?
The consultation is free and you do it yourself. Visit the official website. rentaciudadana.prosperidadsocial.gov.co Look for the option "Check here if your household is a beneficiary." It will ask for your document type, number, and date of birth. With that information, the system will tell you if your household is prioritized. You can also check with digital authentication through GOV.CO.

How to avoid scams with Citizen's Income?
Prosperidad Social has issued warnings about the increase in scams using the names of its programs. The rule is simple and has no exceptions. No one will enroll you via WhatsApp. No one will "activate the transfer" in exchange for payment. No official will ask you for money, a phone top-up, or an "urgent procedure." If someone does, it's a scam.
Be wary of suspicious links, unknown numbers, and websites that impersonate the government. The only safe way to verify information is through official channels: the government portal. socialprosperity.gov.co, The available phone lines and local offices. If you have an elderly person at home, tell them about this. They are the favorite target of these scams.
