It still happens every day: someone types "Fosyga consultation" into the search engine, clicks on the first result, and can't find the consultation anywhere. It's not that they're searching incorrectly. It's that the Fosyga and ADRES These are two stages of the same thing, and the change was made by decree without anyone explaining it to the families. Here's what happened, with the regulations in hand, and where you now go to make the inquiry you used to make at Fosyga.

What happened to Fosyga and ADRES?

Fosyga stopped operating on August 1, 2017. That day, ADRES assumed the administration of health resources, by order of Decree 546 of 2017. The affiliation consultation moved to the ADRES portal and remains free: what changed is who manages the money, not the right.

The fundamental difference lies in their legal structure. Fosyga was never an entity with offices: Law 100 of 1993 created it, in Article 218, "as an account attached to the Ministry of Health […] without legal personality or its own staff." ADRES, on the other hand, is an entity with its own assets and direct responsibility.

Why did the State change Fosyga to ADRES?

Because healthcare money passed through too many hands before reaching the hospital. Article 66 of Law 1753 of 2015 It states it explicitly: the entity is created "in order to guarantee the proper flow and respective controls of resources." The order is contained in that same article: «"Once the Entity referred to in this article becomes operational, Fosyga will be eliminated."».

Between that law and the change, two years of procedures passed. This is the complete process, which is almost never presented together:

Where can I find out today which EPS (Health Promoting Entity) you are affiliated with?

On the ADRES portal, in the Single database (BDUA) member query, which can also be reached from adres.gov.co. You choose the type and number of document, check the "I'm not a robot" box, and the result appears. It's free and there's no need to register.

One useful detail that almost no one publishes: the consultation It doesn't work with just an ID card.. The form accepts fourteen types of documents, including identity card, civil registry, live birth certificate, foreigner's identity card, safe-conduct pass, special permit of stay, and temporary protection permit. For migrant families and newborns, that changes everything.

What does the query show you and what doesn't it show you?

It shows you which health insurance plan you're on, subsidized or contributory, and which EPS (Health Promoting Entity) has you registered with. What it doesn't show is today's status. The website itself warns: "ADRES validates and reflects in its query the affiliation information reported by the EPS." You'll see the latest information your EPS reported, not the most recent event.

That's why there's one up there. update date It's visible, and you should look at it before the result. On August 6, 2026, when we checked, it said "August 5, 2026." If you've just switched health insurance providers, it's normal for the previous information to still appear.

Common mistakes when searching for Fosyga

• Enter the first search result. Websites that copy the name "Fosyga" are usually private and rely on advertising. The official website is located at adres.gov.co.
• Pay for the consultation. It's free and you can do it yourself in two minutes. If they charge you, it's a scam, just like the others. They circulate with state subsidies.
• Read the result as if it were from today. Check the update date before drawing conclusions or arguing with an IPS (Health Service Provider).

What to do if you appear as non-affiliated or retired?

Don't assume you've lost your right to healthcare. Appearing as uninsured almost always means your record is outdated or your enrollment was incomplete, and this can be resolved with your EPS (Health Promoting Entity) or the municipal health department. If you've never been enrolled, the next step is... subsidized regime, which costs nothing.
